This is a weekly activity for children with disabilities
where I serve. They are all always taught about basic daily living skills, and
that is cleaning the house.
It is wrong if we assume that children with disabilities are
children who are unable to work and contribute to others, especially
themselves. They are also able to do
what other normal people can do. Limited physical space and time duration are
not barriers for people to be able to do more, right? Carrying out and
understanding daily routine instructions are challenge for every child with
disabilities (especially those with multiple disabilities). I applaud how the seniors teach their younger
siblings with disabilities patiently considering that they also have limited
physical abilities (most of the seniors are completely blind).
If those of us with a normal physical condition think that
daily household tasks are already a hassle, imagine how difficult it is for
those with disabilities to do them.
